Admin consent required when linking an O365 email account

In Robaws an email account has to be set up in order to send emails.

If your emails are sent from Office 365 and there is an IT partner involved who manages this for your company, admin consent may be required before you can set up the email account.

  • Are you asked for a reason to link Robaws? In that case you do have sufficient rights, but your administrator has to give permission to link Robaws to O365. Go straight to step 2 below.
  • Is admin consent required while linking your email account? In that case you do not have sufficient rights to link Robaws and Office 365. Go to step 1 below.

Solution

Contact the administrator of your O365 portal and ask them to change your rights. To do this, you and the administrator have to carry out a number of steps together.

There is no point in your administrator taking over your screen and signing in with their own account, because the link has to be created by the email address that will send emails from Robaws.

Steps

  1. In Microsoft Azure (by the administrator): change the admin consent settings

In Microsoft Azure, go to 'Enterprise applications > Consent and permissions' and then to 'Permissions > Admin consent settings'.
There, the setting 'Users can request admin consent to apps they are unable to consent to' has to be set to YES.

  1. In Robaws (by the user): start linking the email account

Once this setting has been activated in Microsoft Azure, the user can try again in Robaws to link the O365 email account to Robaws, by clicking the 'Authorize' button.
Work through the various steps. During the linking you are asked for a 'reason' to link the O365 email account to Robaws. You can decide this reason yourself (enter for example: customer).

  1. In Microsoft Azure (by the administrator): approval by the administrator

After a reason has been given, the administrator still has to approve the link. That approval is then immediately valid for the entire organisation.

To do this, the administrator goes to 'Enterprise applications > Admin consent requests' in Microsoft Azure.
Via 'My pending' the link with Robaws can be approved.

  1. In Robaws (by the user): create the email account link

Click the 'authorize' button again and work through the steps. In principle, it should now be possible to establish the link.

  1. In Robaws (by the user): try to send an email from Robaws

Do you still get the same error message? Link the email account once more from A to Z.
Contact support if you still cannot send emails afterwards.
