# Using Markdown

**Markdown** is a simple formatting language that is used to format text quickly and easily.
By using ordinary characters and symbols you can, for example, choose to show text in bold, in italic, underlined or as a list. That way you see straight away what the formatting looks like, without needing the specific formatting settings.

||| In Robaws you can use the Basic Syntax, supplemented with tables and superscript. The rest of the Extended Syntax is not supported. Markdown images are not displayed on the PDF.

## Use

In Robaws you can use Markdown to give **formatting** to item lines or descriptions within all modules. This can be a complete description, but also just a few words within a description that you want to emphasise.

## Settings

Via **settings > general > Pdf** you can activate the 'Enable Markdown support' function.

||| As soon as the 'Enable Markdown support' function is activated, you can no longer use the layout styles you have entered in Robaws. Markdown always takes precedence here.
