# Tracking pixel

When [sending an email](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/sending-emails-from-robaws-xgcmnt/), Robaws can include a **tracking pixel**: a tiny image at the bottom of the email. As soon as the recipient loads that image, we know that the email has been opened. In combination with [statuses](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/working-with-statuses-q7rtmv/), this lets you follow up in Robaws what happens with your quotation or invoice.

## Settings

You switch the tracking on via **settings > email**, with the **'Tracking enabled'** switch. It is on by default and applies to all outgoing emails from your environment.

|| The tracking pixel registers whether your email has been opened by the recipient. If you do not want that, switch the toggle off.

## Follow-up via statuses

To be able to follow up, you set up an [email template](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/email-template-1r656oh/). On that template you enter two statuses:

* a **'sent'** status: this is applied as soon as the email leaves;
* a **'read'** status: this is applied as soon as the tracking pixel in the sent email has been loaded.

You set up these automatic statuses via **settings > module of your choice > email templates**.

In the overview of sent emails you see when an email was sent and when it was read. Only the first time it is opened is registered; later times no longer change the timestamp.

## Limitations

||| The tracking pixel is not 100% accurate. Some mail servers — Gmail first and foremost — load images via their own server or block them. As a result the 'read' status may not appear, even though the email has in fact been read. So use the status as an indication, not as proof.

Also good to know: because the pixel is an image that is loaded from outside, some spam filters look out for it. If your emails end up in the junk mail folder of your customers, switching off the tracking is one of the first things you can try.
