# Setting up the PDF header and address position

Robaws has a few general PDF settings that let you control the **layout of the header** and the **position of the address** on your documents. They are especially useful when you send your documents in a **window envelope**: the client's address must then be in the right place to be visible through the window.

## Where do I find these settings?

Go to **Settings > General**. You will find the settings in the **Pdf** section.

||| Once you have made changes to the settings, click 'Activate settings' at the bottom right to actually apply them within your Robaws environment.

## Inverted header on PDF

By default, your PDF shows the company/info block on the left (wider) and the address block on the right (narrower). If you turn on the **Inverted header on PDF** switch, this layout is **inverted**: the address block moves to the left and the company/info block to the right. The column ratio switches along with it, so each block gets enough space.

## Absolute address positioning

If you turn on the **Absolute address positioning** switch, the address is placed in a **fixed position** suited to correspondence in a window envelope. Robaws then places the address block in a fixed spot in the header, instead of letting it follow the rest of the layout.

||| **Important:** absolute address positioning only works for documents in **portrait format**. For documents in landscape format, the address is placed the usual way. If you combine 'Absolute address positioning' with 'Inverted header on PDF', the fixed address is aligned to the left (against the page margin) instead of the right.

## Margin postnumber & Margin linenumber

With the **Margin postnumber** and **Margin linenumber** fields, you set the **width** of the 'post number' column (the chapter/post number) and the 'line number' column in your document table respectively.

* The input field accepts a **minimum value of 15**. Note: for the **post number**, the effective minimum width is **40**. If you enter a value between 15 and 39, it is automatically raised to 40. For the line number, the value you enter does apply from 15.
* If you leave the fields empty, Robaws uses **40** for the post number and **55** for the line number by default.
* If you have set a custom column width on a specific PDF template, that width takes precedence: this general setting only applies to columns that are not set separately.

## Example

Suppose you are an installation company and you send your invoices in window envelopes. You notice that the client's address falls just next to the window, and your post numbers get too little space, so they look cut off.

1. Go to **Settings > General** and open the **Pdf** section.
2. Turn on the **Absolute address positioning** switch, so the client's address lands in the fixed window position.
3. Leave **Inverted header on PDF** turned off: you want to keep the address on the right.
4. Set **Margin postnumber** to **50**, so your longer post numbers fit completely.
5. Leave **Margin linenumber** at its default value.
6. Click **Activate settings** at the bottom right.

Then create a test invoice and generate the PDF. This lets you check whether the address now falls correctly in the window and whether the post numbers are fully visible.
