# Making a planning item recurring

A **planning item** is scheduled by default for 1 specific moment/period with a start and end date.
You can choose to make a planning item **recurring**. In that case it will **repeat** after a number of x amount of time.

**Example:**
*You are a company that installs swimming pools at customers. Every six months a winter shutdown and a summer start-up have to be carried out. You can do this by using a recurring planning item. This way you no longer have to schedule this job manually every six months.*

There are **several ways** to create a recurring planning item in Robaws:

1. You use the [recurring periods](#2-setting-up-recurring-periods) that have been set up
2. You apply a [custom recurrence](#2-custom-recurrence-on-the-planning-item-itself) specifically on the planning item itself

|| You can delete a recurring planning item. To do this you delete the main item. The recurring items will then be deleted automatically.

## Setting up recurring periods

You can create a standard recurring period via **settings > general > planning > recurring periods** or via **settings > dayplanning > master data > recurring period**.
Bear in mind that, if you choose this option, there is no end moment on this recurrence and that it keeps running endlessly, unless the main item is deleted.

| Setting | Explanation |
| ---- |
| Name | Name of the recurring period. It is used in the planning item, in the drop-down menu for a recurring item. |
| Repeat each | You set the frequency of repeating. (every day, every week, every month) |
| On specific days | The days on which something may be scheduled. |
| Ends on | Exact date on which the recurrence has to end. |
| Ends after | Exact number of times that the recurrence has to take place. |

## Custom recurrence on the planning item itself

On a planning item you can set a custom recurrence that only applies to this planning item. You do not create this in the settings.
You have the following settings for this:

| Setting | Explanation |
| ---- |
| Repeat each ... | Here you set the repeat frequency (e.g. repeat each 1 week(s) to have a weekly recurrence). |
| On specific days | If you choose 'weekly' recurrence, this setting becomes visible. If you activate this setting, you can determine on which days this may all possibly recur. |
| Ends on ... | Here you set after how many times or on which date this recurrence has to stop. |

## Changing one planning item from a series

You may need to change one item from a series, because exceptionally a different employee has to be scheduled.
If you want to change one dayplanning item from a series, you open it and untick 'Recurring'. You can then change it and leave it that way (do not tick it again). The rest of the series stays recurring.
