# Entering leave periods and public holidays in the dayplanning

Yes. You usually know collective leave and public holidays a long time in advance. You enter those days in Robaws as a **leave period**. They then get their own colour in the [dayplanning](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/dayplanning-general-1ohthp5/) and in the [project planning](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/project-planning-wfhgep/), so that your planner immediately sees that nothing should be scheduled. You enter public holidays in the same way as a leave period.

An example: your company goes on construction holiday from 22/07 up to and including 08/08. You create that period as a leave period, and the whole period is coloured in the planning.

||| A leave period is purely visual. Robaws does not block scheduling — you can still put jobs on those days.

## Creating a leave period

Go to **settings > general > leave periods** and create one or more leave periods. You also find the same setting via **settings > dayplanning** and **settings > project planning**.

| Setting | Explanation |

| Name | The name of the leave period. You see it when you move your cursor over the period in the planning. |
| Colour | The colour that the leave period gets in the dayplanning and project planning. |
| Start and end date | The period in which the leave period is visible in the dayplanning and project planning. |
