# Dividing your dayplanning into different categories

To place a planning item in a certain **category**, you use the **'planning type'** field.
By assigning a colour to the planning type, you get a clear overview in your dayplanning.

**Example:**
*You create a planning type 'maintenance'. You use this for all planning items that are maintenance jobs. You assign a green colour to it, so that in the dayplanning you can see immediately which jobs are maintenance jobs.*

## Creating a planning type

You can create a planning type via **settings > general > planning > planning type** or via **settings > dayplanning > master data > planning type**.

| Setting | Explanation |
| ---- |
| Name | Name of the planning type. This is shown in a combobox in the dayplanning on the 'planning type' field. |
| Colour | Colour that you assign to the planning type. This colour is used in the overview of the dayplanning. |
