# Creating a template

In **certain modules** (quotations, projects, orders, subscriptions, supply orders, dayplanning, rental tickets, price requests, equipment and installations) you can create a **template**. A template is a pre-filled document that you use as a starting point every time you draw up a new document.

When you start out, a standard template is already available as an example. You can adjust it as you wish and add extra templates of your own.

The template contains all the information you set in advance. That information is carried over every time you create a new document based on that template. This saves you a lot of time and you make fewer mistakes, because you do not have to start from scratch each time.

**Example:** you are a roofer and you want two kinds of quotation templates: one for a pitched roof and one for a flat roof. On each template you can prepare a few fixed items and titles in advance.

## Creating a template

You create a template via **settings > module of your choice > templates > add template**.

When you create it, you choose between:
* **Create blank template**: you start from an empty document and build the template entirely yourself.
* **Choose existing**: you start from an existing document (for example a quotation) and convert it into a template.

## Points to note

If you prepare items with a price on a template, bear in mind that those prices do not stay up to date automatically. The price is fixed on the day you load the item into the template and does not change when the item price changes later. You keep the prices up to date by:

* clicking **update prices** when drawing up a document, so that the most recent prices are retrieved, or
* updating the prices in the template itself now and then via the settings.
