# Cost centres and cost bearers

The use of **cost centres and cost bearers** is important in bookkeeping.
If you have a direct API integration in Robaws with one of the [accounting software packages](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/linking-your-accounting-software-to-robaws-1dheeh7/), some integrations allow you to export cost centres and/or cost bearers.

Cost centres and cost bearers have been given a different name in Robaws:

* Cost centres = projects
* Cost bearers = [activities](https://support.robaws.com/en/article/working-with-activities-nhyj6m/)

||| On an invoice you can link the projects and activities to the lines of the invoice or incoming invoice.

**Cost centres** and **cost bearers** are exported to every accounting integration whose accounting software supports these dimensions. If the accounting software you have chosen supports cost centres and/or cost bearers, you can have them booked along from Robaws. ## Flow of cost centres and cost bearers in your accounting software

When you send the incoming and/or sales invoice to your accounting software, you can have the cost centres and cost bearers booked.
When the invoice is sent, Robaws automatically looks up this cost centre in the accounting software. If this cost centre is not found, we create it in the accounting software.

| If the project number is not found in the accounting software, you can also link the project manually to the correct project from the accounting software, via the blue pencil action button on the project file.
